Housing
The Pe’zhitu Village is a project of the Omaha Tribe Housing Authority (OTHA) developed in partnership with Big Elk Development, Inc. (BEDI). Over the next two years, the partnership will construct 24 housing units for rent. The housing units will be available to households where at least one member is employed in a field related to agriculture.
The Pe’zhitu Village project is being funded through $1,500,000 in matching funds from the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska ARPA Funds, $825,009 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Rural Development (USDA) 514 loan program, and a $5,925,083 Farm Labor Housing grant from USDA.
BEDI’s Purchase/Rehab/Resell (PRR) program will be acquiring existing single-family homes in Macy that are dilapidated and unoccupied. BEDI will then hire local contractors to rehabilitate and renovate the homes so that they are safe for occupancy and meet local, state, and national housing codes. Once repairs are completed, BEDI plans to sell the homes to Omaha Tribe members who have been approved for a mortgage loan.
The PRR program is being funded through $600,000 approved by the Omaha Tribal Council using a portion of its American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) funds. Information about purchasing these housing units will be available soon.
The Pa’he Homeownership project is a project of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska. The Omaha Tribal Council requested a partnership with BEDI for continuing administration of the project. The project has constructed 4 prefabricated single-family homes for sale to income-eligible households who have been approved for a mortgage loan. BEDI will utilize the funds from the sale of the homes for future housing development. The Pahe Homes projects is funded through an Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG).
An application for the Pa’he homeownership project can be pick up at the BEDI office in Walthill and the Tribal building in Macy (Admin Assistants).
Completed applications should be returned to the Project Assistant in Walthill.
